It was quite common practice for German foundries to shrink the height of the base glyph in Ä, Ö and Ü, or take other liberties to accommodate the diacritics, in fact it appears to have been the norm…1 -

The Reactions are fluff. I don’t use them consistently, and rarely pay attention to them. But I just discovered what the “Quote” button does, and will definitely use that in future.1
